From hotel door attendant to founder: what possibility has taught me, and why achievement needs a sustainable way of working.

Founder Story 02|Anything Is Possible

At the beginning of my career, I opened doors for guests at a five-star hotel. Nearly twenty years later, I founded my own company in Germany, hoping to open a door to collaboration between China and Germany.

It is a path my younger self could hardly have imagined.

Moving Beyond Familiar Ground

I left a small city in southwest China and went on to work in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai before moving to Munich. From hotel door attendant to co-founder and partner in a consulting business, and eventually to founding my own company, each transition brought unfamiliar surroundings and new responsibilities.

I left university before completing my studies. Later, while working full-time, I returned to education and earned a business degree and an MBA. Throughout my career, I have served IHG, BMW, Airbus and Porsche, learning across different industries and organisations. Outside work, I have travelled to more than forty countries.

“Anything is possible” became a way of understanding these experiences. Things that once seemed far beyond reach gradually became achievable through specific choices and repeated action.

The Cost of Growth

I was fortunate to grow up in a time of change and opportunity. Those transitions also came at a cost.

For many years, I considered keeping commitments and giving my full effort fundamental professional obligations. I worked long hours over extended periods. During the pandemic, I once worked for 36 consecutive hours while running a fever. More than once, I was taken directly from the office to emergency care. I also experienced burnout and depression.

Those experiences made me recognise the limits of constant responsibility without adequate space to recover and adjust. Persistence can become depletion.

Integrity, reliability, responsibility and commitment remain central to how I work. Today, I also value clear boundaries and consideration for myself and others.

Building a Sustainable Way Forward

I now consider two questions together: Can we achieve this? And can we do it in a way we can sustain?

That thinking shapes how I choose projects, structure partnerships and build the company. I want to honour commitments while ensuring that goals, resources and responsibilities fit together, leaving room for long-term engagement.

“Anything is possible” remains my belief. Experience has added something to it: possibilities worth pursuing deserve a way of working that allows us to keep going.
